their eyes are opening!  also, i wondered: does anyone know if kittens suck on their paws in utero like babies suck their thumbs?  at first, i think husband thought i was crazy to suggest it, but i've noticed a few of the tinies putting their paws in their mouths.  we don't have as many videos of kittens in utero as we do of humans.

this one is so cute.  flat out refuses to show off her face.  I think one of the cutest things, though, is their tiny little paws.

meet the tinies, one by one.

well, the tinies have all made it to the one week mark, so I feel confident introducing them all and letting you know that, once again, we have 6?! tinies.  they are all gray, of various shades, and this batch is already adorable and smart.  they are already trying to escape the nest, and have mastered climbing over towels.  it's pretty amazing for these tiny little kitties, only one week old, with their eyes still closed.  we can't believe how much they have grown in just a week.  in a few days all of their eyes will be open, and their little ears will stand up.  cute!!

thanks to husband, for being a hand model and taking notes, so that I could take the pictures.  can you please join me in nagging him to stop nibbling the cuticles already??

but, without further ado, here they are . . .

tiny #1 is a fluffy little bugger, who is always trying to escape, and is a dark gray girl with a white spot on her tummy:

tiny #2 is also dark gray and is a boy with white spots on his neck & tummy:

tiny #3, who is determined not to look at the camera, has very long medium gray hair, is a girl, and has a white spot on her chest:

tiny #4 is a light gray stripedey girl; she has a whitish face and tummy, and appears to have a (very rare) marble pattern on her sides ( marble pattern is a large, almost bullseye pattern vs. being a traditional tabby stripe):

tiny #5 was the little runty-roo; she is medium gray with very long hair and has a white spot on her chest:

and, tiny #6 is the favorite tiny, being very sweet and pretty; she is light gray and stripedey with a white face:

day 6

we're getting to the point where they really look like their eyes could open at any moment.  since they are almost at ground level, we've had a few escapees.  they don't quite know what to do once they've tumbled out of their cabinet.  fortunately, mom is very good at scooping them up and getting them back into the nest.  i love this picture - especially the kitten with her little tongue sticking out, and the kitty on top, with her arms splayed out.  it's a million cute moments a minute here at the chez widow zoo!

well, mimi is feeling well enough to get up and enjoy some catnip!

tiny dreams

something you might not know if you haven't raised batches of kittens is they all sleep and go through dream cycles at the same time.  so, when they are going through rem sleep, the entire mass of kitties jerk and move their little paws as though running and twitch all at the same time.  it's more adorable than you could ever imagine.
