All About Restaurant Widow

It was during a typically cold, gray, drizzly winter in Central Ohio when the inspiration struck for Restaurant Widow.

It was 2004, and I had dropped out of corporate life a year earlier to pursue a writing career and things hadn't gotten very far.  Sitting listlessly in my home office one day, staring a another blank computer screen, I racked my brain for where to start.  Blogging had just become very popular, and was all the rage on NPR programs.  I had always wanted to be a food writer, and I thought to self "hm. I wonder if anyone writes food blogs."

Turns out, they did!

I joined Typepad and began tinkering. And I started writing. And writing, and writing, and writing.  I made a commitment to write for three months. If I managed to write content during that time, I would make my site public and keep going.  I did it, and in March 2005, Restaurant Widow went live.

I started off with a 1MP camera and some very shaky web design skills.  Through the years I have developed my own style of photographing food and it is difficult for me to look at any food product without calculating how it might best be captured on a computer screen.

Like many bloggers, I can remember the first day I had 100 visitors in a day, then 400, and then 1000.

I have written over 1500 posts in RW, have received 5000 comments, and have nearly 2 million unique visitors since its inception.

These days, Restaurant Widow receives about 28000 unique visitors per month, and has thousands who read through news aggregaters.

RW is a constantly evolving project, and I hope to continue writing it for a long time.
